Brought up at 1 Whiteman Street, Swindon Went to school at Gorse Hill Infant and Junior School, Swindon with all her brothers and sisters, until she was 14. Worked at the W.D. and H.O. Wills Tobacco factory, stripping tobacco leaves from the stems. Wore overalls. Worked 5.5 days a week alongside her two sisters. Lived at home until she married. Met her future husband at badminton club. Married at St Barnabus Church, Swindon (as did Auntie Bid and Uncle Bert, Auntie Else and Uncle Doug, all children of these were baptised and married at St Barnabus too). When her husband went into the Army she moved from Gloucester back to Swindon and lived with her mother. |
